Wexford Youths -v- Longford Town

Noel O’Connor’s Wexford Youths meet Longford Town at Ferrycarrig Park on Friday night in an Airtricity League First Division game that sees the home side hoping to continue a run of form that has seen them lose only twice in their last nine league games. (kick-off 8pm)

Wexford have recovered well after a disappointing start to the season and three points from this game would offer them the opportunity to leapfrog Cork City Foras and move into sixth place in the table should the Leesiders fail to beat Salthill Devon.

Having put five past promotion candidates Limerick two weeks ago and after securing a 90th minute equaliser against Athlone last weekend, Wexford are showing qualities that will cause some pre-match concern for Tony Cousins as he looks for more consistency from his Longford squad.

It is almost impossible to predict how the midlanders will perform on any given weekend and they travel south with a baffling mixture of results behind them. This is a team that held league leaders Derry City to a scoreless draw at Flancare Park yet lost two weeks later to a Mervue United side that have won only three league games all season.

For those with a betting inclination it might be best to heed the fact that Wexford have won their last four league homes at home while Longford have failed to win any of their last five away matches.
