Hoops refused extra seating by UEFA

Shamrock Rovers’ request to UEFA for an allowance of extra temporary seating at Tallaght ahead of Thursday’s mammoth clash with Juventus has been denied.

The decision means the scramble for tickets will become even more difficult for fans of the Hoops, as admission for the Europa League game will be prioritised for season ticket holders and members.

It now means only a maximum of 6,000 will be allowed to see the current Premier Division pacesetters take on Gianluigi Buffon and Co.

It was hoped that similar temporary stands to the ones that were erected ahead of the Real Madrid friendly last year could have been used to bump up the attendance but UEFA’s strict health and safety rules have denied it.

A statement on the club’s website read: 'Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of Shamrock Rovers FC, the FAI and South Dublin County Council, the club did not receive a derogation from UEFA to install temporary seating at Tallaght Stadium for this Thursday's match against Juventus.

'This means that it is highly unlikely that there will be any general sale of match tickets as the 6,000 capacity is being allocated to club season ticket holders and members first.'

All hope is not lost for those eager to get a glimpse of Michael O’Neill’s side take on the Old Lady however, as the club is giving non-season ticket holders the option to buy a season ticket for the remaining games this season.

The Hoops are charging €100 for the remaining seven home games and it will allow buyers the chance to get a seat to the eagerly awaited visit of the Italians.

Tickets are available on a first come first served basis, more information available by phoning (01)4605948.
