Fenlon delighted with Bray victory

Following Bohemian’s traumatic exit from the Champions League on Tuesday the Phibsboro club had an altogether less stressful evening at the Carlisle Grounds on Friday night where they renewed their assault on the league title against Bray Wanderers. Manager Pat Fenlon had some harsh things to say about his team’s defeat at the hands of Welsh side New Saints but there was a markedly more relaxed atmosphere as he spoke to extratime.ie about Boh’s 3-0 win against the Division’s bottom side.

“Yeah, I’m delighted with them. In fairness to them they’ve given those kind of performances fairly regularly over a period of time. It was always going to be a tough game for us. Teams have come out here and dropped points. They have a lot of young players, Bray, and they’re not scared by the reputation of Bohs, you know. So I was pleased with the start (Bohs had a 2-0 lead within the opening fifteen minutes) and obviously we saw the game out quite well then.”

If the evening held one concern for Fenlon it might have been the early withdrawal of Bohemian’s ‘man of the match’, Killian Brennan, who stayed on the ground after a solid but fair challenge from Bray’s Adam Mitchell. As Fenlon explained;

“He took a bang on the calf yesterday in training and he was a little bit doubtful before the game but he wanted to play. And then he took another bang in the corner that time so we just took him off as a precaution to be honest with you.”

Aaron Green was another who impressed in his role as support striker to the in-form Paddy Madden. It was Green who supplied the pass for Madden’s second goal and the two combined well throughout the game, linking well with wide men, Killian Brennan and Gareth McGlynn to give the Bray defence a torrid ninety minutes.

“Yeah, in fairness to him he’s had a bit of a hard time with injuries. He got into the team and got injured in the Setanta Cup final, got back in and got injured again so he needed to get fit. But him and Paddy (Madden) give us good options up front. They have plenty of pace between them, you know, and they cause defenders problems.”

Next up for is a league game against fellow title chasers St. Patrick’s Athletic at Richmond Park next Friday night.
