Bohemians 0 - 3 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Wolves began their pre-season by dispatching Bohemians 3-0 at
Dalymount Park today in an efficient performance.
The match was just six minutes old when Jody Craddock gave the English side the lead through a header after the first corner of the match was whipped in.
Wolves never really let go of control from then on and did well to restrict a youthful Bohemians to a few chances.
After twenty-three minutes Jason Byrne had Bohs’ best chance of scoring, but proved wasteful in his execution.
Some Bohs’ pressure led to Wayne Hennesey being forced into making a rushed clearance. The ball fell to Bohs and Lee Dixon was allowed to run at the Wolves full-backs.
His cross found Jason Byrne in the penalty area, but Byrne could only head the ball over the crossbar.
Matt Jarvis could have got Wolves’ second goal eight minutes later, the winger curling his shot just wide after he managed to bend it around a Bohs defender.
The visiting team had several chances to get that second goal before the half-time whistle blew.
Dave Jones hammered his free-kick at Chris O’Connor’s net after thirty- five minutes but it was scrambled away before reaching the goal.
Perhaps the best opportunity to get a second goal came just before half-time when Andy Keogh was presented with a golden chance yards from goal.
The Irish international shot wide though, and Wolves went in to the break a goal ahead.
If Wolves were in the ascendancy in the first half, they were completely dominant in the second.
New signing Stephen Fletcher was lively- testing Chris O’Connor with a rasping long-range effort minutes after play restarted.
Fletcher looked intent on getting his first goal in Wolves colours, and was a bit unlucky not to get on the end of a cross on fifty-four minutes when it looked like a certain goal if a connection was made.
A debut goal did come for Fletcher on sixty-one minutes. Karl Henry won the ball in midfield and launched the Wolves attack. Fletcher was at hand when the ball fell to him in the box to score with a deft finish.
Yet another chance fell to Fletcher two minutes later, the Scottish striker heading just over the goal this time.
The match became a true exhibition match after the second goal. Bohs gave runs to trialists Roberto Lopes and Yael Laho, while Wolves used up all of their eleven substitutes.
Geoffrey Mujangi-Bia sealed an emphatic win for Wolves with a 91st minute goal- the Wolves new boy finishing well after some slack Bohs defending.
