Former Cork City legend George O’Callaghan has returned to his old stomping ground after signing a contract with Tommy Dunne’s side.

The 30 year old returns to the Leeside after being released from his contract at Waterford United at the end of June.

Speaking to CorkCityFc.net O’Callaghan talked about his delight at returning to the club.

“It’s nice to come home. The last time I was here I don’t think I was one hundred percent sure what I wanted to do, but now I’m older and I have a family,” he said.

However the midfielder was quick to play down any pressure he may face upon his return. “I don’t want there to be any drama or any expectations about my return; I’m looking forward to working with the lads and hope to work my way into the team. I enjoyed my time at Waterford but it’s good to be back home,” he added.

City manager Tommy Dunne spoke of his delight in seeing O’Callaghan return to the City, “Cork City is George’s home and it’s where he has played the best football of his career. As everyone knows he is a talented player and brings a wealth of experience also. He wanted to come back to the club and we are prepared to give him the opportunity to fight for a place in the team.”

O’Callaghan is expected to be in the squad for Fridays trip to Gortakeegan to take on third placed Monaghan United.
