- Mervue returned to action after the mid season break last Friday Night losing to second placed Waterford United as they suffered their eighth away defeat of the campaign. League leaders Derry only fared slightly better as they played out a scoreless home draw with struggling Longford Town but remain five points clear at the top.
- Derry will be eager to get a winning run going again following just one win (Athlone Town 3-1) in five games in the month of June, three of which were cup games.
- In their previous meeting this season back in early April at the Brandywell, Derry showed why they are the top team in this division as they ran out comfortable 4-1 winners.
- “These are the games that we all look forward to being involved in and if we can get a result it would be great. We have a full squad to choose from and competition for places is something that we haven’t had for a long time. If last Friday’s game is anything to go by we will have to be at our best to get anything out of the game” – Mervue manager Tom French
