Waterford United have confirmed the release of two players effective immediately. The two departing players have already been replaced by Manager Stephen Henderson as his side go in search of promotion.

Midfielder George O’Callaghan and striker Gareth Cambridge are no longer a part of the teams plans and have both had their contracts terminated by mutual consent.

O'Callaghan, 30, was a free agent following his release Yeovil Town last year when Waterford United boss Stephen Henderson tempted him to join his promotion chasing squad at the beginning of April. O’Callaghan’s time at the club however coincided with a poor spell for the club but since his last match, Waterford have regained their form with three wins from their last three games.

Cambridge had joined at the start of the season having been with Cork City the previous season. He found his chances limited but failed to cement a place in the Waterford starting eleven.

Stephen Henderson has moved quickly to replace the departing players, with the addition of three new faces in Paul Murphy, Shane Barrett and Michael Coady. Striker Murphy joins having been involved in junior football following his release from Ipswich Town due to homesickness at Christmas.

25 year old Shane Barrett has joined from Munster Senior League side Blarney United in Cork having been an integral part of the Cobh Ramblers side that won promotion to the Premier Division in 2007.

Left back Coady has joined from Carrick United in Waterford having also played for Clonmel Town. This season he helped Carrick win the Waterford Premier League and the Munster Junior Cup. He is also a current Republic of Ireland Junior International.
