Sporting Fingal vs Wexford Youths Reaction

Credit:

The warmest night of the season so far at Morton Stadium saw the Sporting Fingal beat Wexford Youths 2-0 on Friday night. extratime.ie Man of the match Robbie Doyle spoke with us after the game, still sporting ridiculously unneeded leg warmers.

How many could you have had tonight Robbie?
“Jesus I think I could have had four (and the rest). The keeper made a few good saves.”

It was a good performance from Sporting Fingal, twelve corners to one probably shows how dominant you were
“Yeah, if we keep getting into positions, there’s always the chance of us putting one away. Their keeper made some good saves in the first half; they were kinds of half chances though.

“You’re always looking for that goal to ease the pressure and we were happy enough that it came with a header. It went dead then for a bit but then we got the second goal at the end. We’re trying to get back to winning ways after last week”

You and Peter Hynes closed down their defence all game, barely giving them time to pass. The tactic worked very well, didn’t it?
“Yeah, once you keep on chasing, it gives you a chance and coming back from last week - where we didn’t work hard enough - we said we’d have to put the work in before anything else. Its good now, bringing it on to Longford Town next week and another three points hopefully.”

You all won tonight, Shels’ 3-0, Waterford 5-0 and Dundalk last night won 6-0
A few quid coming my way so, I threw a bit on the four of us winning!

How do you think the season is going so far for Sporting Fingal?
“Good, with the start we had you know, we are fourth in the league now and once we are there or thereabouts we’ll have a good chance. I firmly believe if we stay among the pack, it’s anyone’s league.

“There’s enough experience in the dressing room to go and win the league, it’s whether or not we want it enough. I believe we are good enough, but it’s whether or not the team has the belief out on the pitch.”
