Gareth Cronin last night dismissed suggestions that Waterford United could be on the brink of financial meltdown. Rumours circulated on Suirside this week that the club were struggling to cover their costs, but according to the Cork native The Blues are in no imminent danger.

Speaking exclusively to extratime.ie, the Waterford boss responded to the rumours that the club may have to significantly tighten its belt. "Not that I'm aware of, and I'd expect to be made aware of it. I doubt it. Look, I haven't been told anything...Lads wages are bang on but I do know it's a struggle," said Cronin.

However, he did acknowledge that money was tight at the RSC and Cronin appealed to the Waterford public to come out and support his charges. "I'd ask people to support the club in any way they can. There is very little money in the club. Historically, it's a big old club, but people have to ask the question whether or not they want a successful club. If they do they have to come out and support the team. We have a great chance next week with Wexford coming here in a local derby to come out and fill that [new] stand," he said
