Longford Town -v- Limerick

Longford Town will hope to avoid their third defeat in a row and
their ninth of the season when they welcome Limerick to Flancare Park
on Saturday night (kick-off 7.30pm)
Last weekend’s 3-0 home defeat to Monaghan Utd left the small but loyal bunch of supporters extremely frustrated and the pressure is on manager Tony Cousins and his players.
The Town boss admitted he understood supporters’ frustrations. “I’m not going to sit and make excuses. If I’d been sitting in the stands I probably would’ve felt the same way as supporters. The only thing I can say is that we are working extremely hard behind the scenes to try and get players to come in and improve the team,” he said.
Cousins has stated in the past that he wants to be given time and hopes to make changes in the transfer window. There are three leagues games to be played between now and then and supporters will hope performances and results improve.
On paper the Town have probably their best squad since they were relegated but they have rarely shown what they are capable of and currently lie third from bottom in the table.
Cousins will more than likely pick from the same squad of players that he had for the game against Monaghan Utd. Striker Peter Hynes limped off injured in that game but should be available. Defender Niall O’Reilly is unavailable yet again due to his participation in the European Police Soccer Championships in Greece.
Limerick’s fortunes are the complete opposite to their opponents. One of the form teams in the division they travel to Longford hoping to extend their unbeaten run to five games. They’ve lost once in their last seven league games and picked up a valuable point last weekend away to leaders Derry City.
A win for Limerick in Flancare coupled with a Derry win over Waterford could see Pat Scully’s charges move into second spot in the table, albeit on goal difference.
