Evan McLaughlin has committed to Cork City by signing a new contract that will keep him at Turner's Cross for the 2025 season.

The former Derry City player impressed at City as they ran away with the First Division league last season. He made 34 appearances for the Rebels, notched five goals, and helped them gain promotion back to the Premier Division.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder started his career with his native Derry City and also had a loan spell with NIFL side Coleraine before moving to Cork in January 2024.

He was one of the standout players for Tim Clancy’s side last year and was rewarded for his contribution to City’s league title win by being selected for the PFAI First Division Team of the Year, along with teammates Cathal O'Sullivan, Bradley Wade, Cian Coleman, Greg Bolger, and Charlie Lyons.

McLaughlin spoke with the Cork City media team this week and said: “I’m delighted to get the deal done and to commit to City for the season. I really enjoyed my first year here, and I’ve loved playing in front of the Turner’s Cross crowd. I can’t wait to get going again for the new season!”

City boss Tim Clancy added: “Evan did very well for us last season, particularly after the move to left-back. There was obviously interest from elsewhere, so we’re very pleased to get him tied down for 2025.

“While he’s still a young player, he’s got a lot of first-team games under his belt, so he knows what’s expected as we make the step up to the Premier Division.”
