Sligo Rovers goalkeeper Ed McGinty has revealed that he will not be returning to the Showgrounds as a Bit O’Red player this season.

The former Ireland underage international spent the 2024 season on loan from Oxford United and caught the eye for John Russell’s men.

But he signalled his intention to move on with several clubs in the League of Ireland and elsewhere interested in his services.

And he wrote on social media: Playing for Sligo Rovers will always be a privilege to me and moving on is always difficult.

“Last season was a pleasure to be a part of and I thank John Russell, Ryan Casey, Richard Brush and all my teammates for making it possible.

“Thank you to the fans and the community of Sligo who I will always love and support no matter what.”

His exit leaves Conor Walsh ready to step into the role of first-choice netminder at the Showgrounds this season.
