Adam Foley bids farewell to Drogheda United as Douglas James-Taylor returns
FAI Cup holders Drogheda United have confirmed that Adam Foley has left the club after three years.
The 34-year-old forward will not renew his deal, citing the Boynesiders move to full-time football following their FAI Cup win and relegation playoff survival.
Though Drogheda have been boosted with confirmation that Douglas James-Taylor will return on loan from Walsall.
But Balbriggan native Foley's exit will be felt having Drogheda from Finn Harps before the 2022 season.
Foley recorded 97 appearances for the Louth outfit, with his best goalscoring season coming in 2024 when he found the back of the net ten times.
Two of those goals were the most important in their season, coming off the bench in the first half of the FAI Cup semi-final against Wexford, and securing a late winner and Drogheda United’s spot in the final they would ultimately win.
“Unfortunately, due to the change in schedule & work commitments, I’m unable to continue playing in the Premier Division," he said.
"I am gutted it has to end but it is the right time for the club to go into full time football especially after the success of last season & European football on the way.
“It has been the best years of my life being a Drogheda United player & I can now go watch & support the lads on Fridays.
“The dressing rooms over the years are the best ones I’ve been a part of. I am l am lucky I can call most of them my friends. Thanks for helping me along the way."
James-Taylor's though will be a boost though, with the on-loan Walsall striker playing a pivotal role on their way to league and cup success.
He scored six times in the league and seven times in their successful FAI Cup run.
