In a statement of intent by the Munster club, Cobh Ramblers have captured the signature of 2024 Premier Division title winner Shane Griffin after his release from Shelbourne.

An experienced and successful League of Ireland defender, Griffin returns home to his native county after spending the last five seasons playing in the capital.

During this time, he picked up an FAI Cup winner's medal with St Patrick's Athletic, as well as his most recent success with Shelbourne last season, where he was one of Damien Duff's first signings as manager of the club.

Upon arriving at Cobh, Griffin said: “I’m delighted to be signing for the club. When I spoke with the manager, he told me of the plans to progress the club, and that’s something that I'm looking forward to being a part of.”

Prior to this, Griffin was capped at U21 level by the Republic of Ireland, as well as having a successful spell with Cork City, where he also won the FAI Cup.

He joins his namesake, Shane Griffin, previously of Bray Wanderers, in arriving at Cobh for the 2025 season as manager Michael McDermott assembles a strong squad that will undoubtedly look to challenge for promotion in the new season.

McDermott said: “Shane is a player that has enjoyed a highly successful career at the highest levels, and I was keen to get this quality into our club. He is a winner, he is a leader, and he will bring vast experience to our team.”

Now at the age of 30, Griffin will add experience and quality to the Rams' defence as they prepare for their opening league game next month in a Munster derby away to Treaty United.
