Waterford are continuing to build their squad for the upcoming season and have greatly boosted their attacking options with the addition of striker Tommy Lonergan on loan from Fleetwood Town.

Following the arrival of established players such as Andy Boyle (formerly of Dundalk) and Matty Smyth (formerly of Shelbourne), Waterford manager Keith Long has now added the 21-year-old former UCD and St Patrick’s Athletic player to his squad for 2025.

Lonergan was one of the stand-out players for UCD as they managed to avoid relegation in 2022, thanks in no small part to his 15th minute goal which gave them a 1-0 win over Waterford in the Promotion / Relegation play off final at Richmond Park.

He then transferred to St Patrick’s Athletic in 2023 where he made 36 appearances in all competitions, 31 of them in the Premier Division league.

He moved to Fleetwood Town at the beginning of the 2024 season and managed 11 appearances at Highbury Stadium before returning now to Ireland to link up with the Blues for the 2025 season.

The Dunboyne native has also represented Ireland at underage level, racking up 16 appearances at U-16, U-18, U-19 and U-21 level.
