AFC Bournemouth have added to their squad with the signing of full-back Julio Soler on a long-term deal.

The 19-year-old joins from Argentine Primera División side Lanús for an undisclosed fee, becoming the club's second acquisition in the January transfer window after Matai Akinmboni.

Simon Francis, first-team technical director highlighted the defender’s potential.

"Julio is another talented young player who arrives highly sought after, and we are pleased to have added him to our squad," said Francis.

"With the way Andoni and his staff improve exciting prospects, we look forward to seeing Julio’s progress with us."

Born in Asunción, Paraguay, Soler moved to Argentina as a child and joined Lanús at the age of nine.

Rising through their youth system, he made his senior debut in a 1-0 win over Independiente in 2022 and accumulated 58 first-team appearances for the club.

Soler has already gained international experience, featuring in last summer’s Olympic Games in Paris under the guidance of former midfield legend Javier Mascherano. The young defender started every group-stage match for Argentina.

The full-back’s growing reputation saw him included in Lionel Scaloni’s senior Argentina squad for World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia in October 2024.

This week, he was also named in the Argentina squad for the upcoming CONMEBOL Sudamericano Sub-20, having previously captained the team at youth level.
