Former Saints loanee Pitaluga leaves Liverpool to rejoin Fluminense
Marcelo Pitaluga has returned to Brazil from Liverpool after multiple loan spells, including one in Inchicore.
The young goalkeeper joined the then-English Premier League champions at the age of 17. All of Pitaluga’s appearances for Liverpool came through their academy teams, as he never managed to break into the senior squad.
He began going out on loan, first leaving for Macclesfield, although he did not make an appearance for the lower-league English side due to suffering ankle ligament damage.
Next, he travelled to Ireland and joined St. Pat’s for the start of the 2024 season.
However, things did not go as planned, as Pitaluga struggled to find his footing, making just four appearances in the Premier Division before being replaced by Danny Rogers.
Upon returning to Liverpool in the summer, he was once again sent out on loan, this time to Scotland, where he joined Livingston on a six-month contract. Once again, he failed to make an impact, spending his time in the Scottish Championship largely on the bench.
This series of struggles led Pitaluga to jump at the chance to rejoin Fluminense, his boyhood club, with the hope of securing more game time.
