Wigan Athletic secure Will Goodwin on loan from Oxford United
Wigan Athletic have added to their attacking options with the loan signing of Oxford United striker Will Goodwin for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
The 22-year-old becomes the Latics’ third addition of the January transfer window, joining after the arrivals of Josh Robinson and Joe Hungbo.
Goodwin, who helped Oxford United secure promotion to the Championship last season, expressed his excitement about the move.
“I am buzzing, and really excited to be here. When I found out Wigan were an option, it was a no-brainer for me to come here," he said.
“The club also sells itself with its size and history, and it was a big factor as to why I wanted to come here and be part of it.”
The forward brings plenty of experience despite his young age, having featured for several clubs across the English Football League.
A product of Chester’s youth system, Goodwin signed for Stoke City in 2021 before embarking on loan spells with Hartlepool United and Torquay United. He later made a permanent move to Cheltenham Town in January 2023, where he enjoyed a run in League One, scoring six goals in 16 appearances.
Goodwin joined Oxford United in January 2024. Despite limited appearances this season due to an injury setback, he now aims to make an impact at the Brick Community Stadium.
Shaun Maloney, Wigan Athletic’s manager, shared his enthusiasm for the signing: “Will is another player we have been tracking for some time, and I’m delighted he’s decided to join us. He has different attributes to our other forward players and adds a new dynamic to our frontline.”
