National League side Woking have completed the signing of experienced forward Aiden O’Brien, who joins the side on a deal running until the end of the season. The 31-year-old arrives following his departure from League of Ireland champions Shelbourne.

A product of Millwall’s academy, O’Brien made over 200 appearances for the Lions, scoring 44 goals. During his time with the club, he helped secure promotion from League One through the play-offs in 2017. His performances earned him a call-up to the Republic of Ireland national team, where he debuted in September 2018 and scored in a 1-1 draw against Poland.

Since leaving Millwall, O’Brien has played for several clubs, including Sunderland, Portsmouth, Shrewsbury Town, and had loan spells at Gillingham and Sutton United.

Most recently, he joined Shelbourne in August 2024, where he played a role in their League of Ireland title-winning campaign, scoring twice in ten appearances. O’Brien departed Shelbourne at the end of December to return to England.

Woking’s Director of Football, Jody Brown, expressed enthusiasm about the signing, saying, “We felt adding attacking depth was important, and Aiden can play in multiple roles within our system, and will add composure and experience in the final third.”

Brown highlighted O’Brien’s connections within the squad as a potential advantage.

“Assistant manager Simon Bassey worked with Aiden at Portsmouth, and he played with Harry Beautyman at Sutton United - that familiarity is something we hope to be a positive in terms of Aiden settling in quickly.”

Woking currently lie 17th in the National League, the fifth tier in the English football league system.
