Athlone Town sign defender Omorehiomwan from Bray Wanderers
Defender Cole Omorehiomwan is the latest signing for Dario Castelo’s men ahead of the 2025 season, following an impressive two seasons with Bray Wanderers.
The signing of the 22-year-old was announced by Athlone Town on Saturday afternoon. Omorehiomwan spent time in the Shamrock Rovers Academy for a number of years prior to his stint at Bray Wanderers.
Omorehiomwan has been a consistent performer in the First Division over the past two seasons. He is well known to Athlone fans, having scored an equaliser in added time during the 2024 First Division Play-off Final against his new club. That goal sent the game to extra time, where Bray Wanderers eventually triumphed in a penalty shootout, ending Athlone’s season.
Omorehiomwan is one of a number of new signings made during the off-season by Dario Castelo, alongside the likes of Adam Wixted and Kyle O’Connor, who also joined the club in recent days, as they look to build a strong squad for the upcoming season.
Omorehiomwan is an impressive addition for the Midlanders and will bring additional League of Ireland experience to the defence, as Athlone aim to push for promotion once more in 2025 in what is shaping up to be an interesting and highly competitive campaign.
They kick off their season away to recently relegated Dundalk at Oriel Park on the 14th of February.
