Sutton snap up experienced duo
Sutton United have snapped up former Colchester United midfielder Alex Woodyard.
The 31 year old started his career at the Charlton Athletic Academy ahead of moving to Southend United as a teenager and making his Football League debut aged 16.
Picking up some non league experience, he then had successful spells with Lincoln City, as they returned to league football under Danny Cowley, Peterborough United and AFC Wimbledon.
Speaking to club media, Head Coach Steve Morison enthused over his new arrival, “I am delighted we’ve been able to get this deal over the line. Alex is a seasoned professional and will add some crucial experience into our side.”
“He’s got previous experience with winning the division when he was at Lincoln, and I see him bringing value to our midfield going into the second half of the season.”
United have also announced the signing of 21 year old former Arsenal Academy youngster Alex Kirk with the defender picking up plenty of loan experience during his time at the Emirates.
Morison referenced this while speaking to the same source about Kirk’s arrival,
“We’re delighted to bring Alex Kirk on board. He’s a player who has shown real maturity and potential at such a young age, with valuable experiences at Arsenal, Ayr United, and helping Bromley to promotion last season. His physicality, character, and versatility fit perfectly into our squad and align with the club’s vision.”
“We’re focused on developing young, talented players who can grow with us, and Alex’s profile matches our long-term transfer strategy. We’re excited to see him develop and contribute to the team’s success.”
