LASK secures Sheffield United midfielder Ismaila Coulibaly
Austrian Bundesliga club LASK has added to its midfield with the signing of Ismaila Coulibaly from Sheffield United. The 24-year-old Malian midfielder has penned a contract that runs until May 31, 2028.
Coulibaly, who arrived at Sheffield United in 2020, struggled for game time with the English side, making just nine appearances across all competitions. During his time with the Blades, he was sent on loan spells to Beerschot in Belgium and AIK Solna in Sweden.
The midfielder began his career at the Oslo Football Academy in Dakar, Senegal, before moving to Europe in 2019 to join Norwegian side Sarpsborg 08.
He quickly impressed, which led to his transfer to Sheffield United in 2020, then competing in the Premier League. Upon signing with the Blades, Coulibaly was loaned to Beerschot, where he featured in 42 matches across two seasons in the Belgian Pro League.
In 2023, Coulibaly made his debut for Mali at the Africa Cup of Nations, solidifying his international credentials. The following year, he joined AIK Solna on loan, where he contributed two goals and one assist in just ten matches in Sweden’s top flight.
"With Ismaila Coulibaly we are gaining a young player who has already gained a lot of international experience," said LASK head coach Markus Schopp.
"He gives us more flexibility in our playing style, and I am really looking forward to working with him."
The addition of Coulibaly marks LASK’s third signing of the winter transfer window, following the arrivals of Samuel Adeniran and Mohamed Sanogo.
