Skipper Cian Coleman among trio to depart Cork City
First Division champions Cork City have confirmed that defender and club captain Cian Coleman has left the club ahead of their top-flight return.
The former Limerick and Cobh Ramblers star joined City ahead of the 2020 season and led the club to First Division titles in 2022 and 2024.
He also made over 100 appearances for the Turner’s Cross outfit.
Coleman’s departure also follows news that Barry Coffey and Niall Brookwell have also left.
A club statement read: “Cork City FC can confirm that Cian Coleman, Barry Coffey and Niall Brookwell have departed the club following the expiration of their contracts.
“Cian Coleman, who came through the Academy, rejoined the club ahead of the 2020 Season, captained City to the 2022 & 2024 First Division titles, making over 100 appearances and scoring 9 goals since returning to the club.
“Barry Coffey initially joined the club on loan from Celtic midway through the 2021 season, before signing permanently, also making over 100 appearances, and scoring 23 times.
“Niall Brookwell joined City ahead of the 2024 campaign, making 15 league appearances.
“We would like to thank the three players for their contribution to the club, and wish them the very best of luck going forward.”
Meanwhile, striker Harvey Skieters has penned a new deal with the Leesiders ahead of the 2025 season.
The 19-year-old, who was named City’s under-20 player of the year last year, made his First Team debut in April and went on to make eight league appearances in City’s First Division winning campaign.
“I’m delighted to sign my first professional deal with the club. I have worked very hard for this opportunity and I am proud to sign for the next two years,” he said.
