Duo depart Longford Town to join Athlone Town

Athlone Town have announced the signings of defender Kyle O’Connor and attacker Adam Wixted.

21 year old left back O’Connor was a regular for midland rivals Longford Town last season, only missing a handful of games as he lined out 34 times in the First Division. A member of Shamrock Rovers Under 15s in 2018, he moved to Shelbourne U17s in 2020 and joined Longford Town ahead of the 2023 season.

29 year old attacker Wixted has been in the league for over a decade, since joining Bohemians in January 2015. After a short spell at Dalymount Park he joined Bray Wanderers and ended up in the Leinster Senior League with O’Devaney Dunard. He returned to League of Ireland football shortly afterwards with Drogheda United where he spent 2017-2020 bar the 2018 season with Sligo Rovers. 

He first joined Athlone Town for the 2021 season before a trip to the NIFL with Warrenpoint Town. He left them to joined Longford Town in the summer of 2023 and has been at Bishopsgate for the past 18 months.
