First up, creative midfielder Will Patching returned to England to join Carlisle United after a couple of seasons with Derry City. The 26 year old from Stockport made 111 Premier Division appearances, scoring 30 times, for the Candystripes after first arriving on loan from Dundalk in 2021.
Alex Greive arrived at Bohemians in the summer on a multi season deal from SPL side St Mirren. However, two FAI Cup goals and 11 Premier Division outings later the 25 year old New Zealander has left the club.
In the same transfer window, Shelbourne announced the signing of former Republic of Ireland international Aiden O'Brien. The 31 year old netted once in the league for the Reds- a crucial winner over Dundalk at Oriel Park in August. The club announced his departure on New Year's Eve.
At the RSC, Waterford FC have confirmed that long serving right back Darragh Power has joined Cheltenham Town. A graduate from the Waterford Academy, the 24 year old has been a mainstay since his 2019 league debut against Sligo Rovers and racked up over 100 appearances for The Blues.
In terms of new signings, young striker Gavin Hodgins swapped Drumcondra for Donegal as he left Shelbourne to join Finn Harps. The 19 year old former Republic of Ireland underage international had a loan spell with Glenavon last season and was a prolific scorer in the underage Academy leagues.
It’s a case of one in and one out this week so far at Harps with Noe Baba departing for Athlone Town after two seasons and over 60 First Division appearances for the Ballybofey outfit. The 28 year old versatile former underage international previously lined out for Waterford in the 2018 season.
With re-signings, it’s Longford Town who’ve been busiest of late with Harry Halwax, Eric Yoro and Dean George all returning to Bishopsgate for 2025.
22 year old goalkeeper Halwax joined De Town in the middle of the 2024 season from Maynooth Town and ended the campaign as Longford Town’s number one- featuring in twelve league games for the club.
20 year old defender Yoro came to Bishopsgate after a spell in England with Bolton Wanderers. The former UCD man rattled off 13 appearances to become a mainstay in the defence for the second half of the season.
26 year old attacker George saw his maiden season in the midlands disrupted by injury following his arrival from Treaty United, however a return to full fitness at the end of the campaign gave a glimpse of his attacking talents.
Neighbours Athlone Town were also busy on the re-signing front with Matthew Leal,Kyle Robinson,Agbo Babatunde and Dylan Hand all staying in the midlands for 2025.
25 year old Hand was a focal point of the Athlone Town defence last season with 29 appearances while Robinson netted a hat trick against league champions Cork City en route to seven league goals in 15 appearances since a mid season arrival.
19 year old Agbo Babatunde, who played with both the U20s and senior sides in 2024 is back for 2025 while 21 year old Matthew Leal made the majority of his 15 league appearances in the first half of the season and will be back in the black and blue next season
