Dundalk defender Animasahun signs new deal to remain at Oriel Park
Dundalk have confirmed that 21-year-old defender Mayowa Animasahun has signed a new contract.
Animasahun made 19 appearances in the top flight last season, 16 of which were starts.
Speaking to DFCTV, Animasahun said he was pleased to continue at his hometown club.
“I’m delighted, it’s good to be back for next season,” he said.
Reflecting on his decision, he added, “Once the club got the licence and you could see the direction the club was going, it was an easy decision to make.”
The defender, a product of local side Glenmuir United, joined Dundalk as a teenager in 2021.
He made his senior debut in the same year, shortly after turning 18. Animasahun also gained experience on loan with Dungannon Swifts in Northern Ireland during the 2022/23 season, where he featured regularly.
Animasahun acknowledged his ambition to compete at the top level but remains committed to helping Dundalk return to the Premier Division. “I always look forward, and I’m hoping to progress more,” he said.
Reflecting on his aspirations for the upcoming season, he added, “The aim is automatic promotion – that’s what we’re working towards now.”
Animasahun is the 10th player confirmed in Dundalk’s 2025 squad, with Enda Minogue, Conor O’Keeffe, Seán Keogh, Aodh Dervin, Harry Groome, Daryl Horgan, Gbemi Arubi, Dean Ebbe, and Leo Gaxha all signed up so far.
