Stockport County has completed the transfer of Icelandic forward Benoný Breki Andrésson from KR, with the move set to take effect from January 1st, once the transfer window opens.

The 19-year-old forward has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract and will join the club's Emerging Talents programme to undergo a rigorous development plan.

Andrésson, who made a significant impact in Iceland's top-flight by setting a new record of 21 goals in a single season, will be Stockport's first signing of the new year.

Before joining KR in 2023, Andrésson played in Italy with Serie A club Bologna.

Simon Wilson, Director of Football at Stockport, expressed high hopes for Andrésson's integration into the team.

"Benoný is what we call an emerging talent signing, someone who we believe has high potential for the future but requires a development plan and huge effort from all parties to get him to where we think he can be," Wilson said.

He further highlighted the supportive environment at the club, "He has an opportunity at a great club, with great staff, players, and facilities, to create a very exciting future for himself."

Wilson also stressed the importance of patience and teamwork in nurturing young talents like Andrésson.

"We have to remember he is a young person coming to a new country and must be patient with him, but if we all get our heads down and work well together we are confident of success," he added.
