Michael McDermott named as new head coach of Cobh Ramblers

Cobh Ramblers have appointed Michael McDermott as their new head coach, marking the beginning of a new era for the League of Ireland club.

The Belfast native brings a wealth of experience from both international and club football, having worked on major stages including the FIFA World Cup and Europa League.

McDermott’s extensive career includes roles with the national teams of Iran and Qatar, working under legendary managers such as Carlos Queiroz, and guiding Glentoran FC to domestic success and European competition.

Club chairman Bill O’Leary hailed McDermott’s credentials, stating: “Michael’s appointment reflects our ambition to bring world-class knowledge to our club. His track record at international and club levels speaks for itself, and we are confident his expertise will elevate Cobh Ramblers.”

Paul Francis, founder and CEO of FC32, the club’s ownership group, praised McDermott’s focus on results and development, adding: “Michael has demonstrated his ability to deliver results in the most competitive environments. His understanding of modern football methodologies and commitment to player development align perfectly with the club’s vision for sustained success.”

McDermott expressed his excitement about joining Cobh Ramblers, saying, “From my first interactions with the club and community, I sensed something special. I look forward to building a talented squad that will make the town proud and achieving memorable milestones for the Cobh community.” He also highlighted the contributions of volunteers, staff, and the ownership group, calling the club “unique.”

The new head coach is set to take charge immediately.
