The final Munster Senior Cup second-round tie took place this weekend as 2020 champions Rockmount secured their place in the last 16 with a 3-0 win at Avondale.

The 2015 finalists Avondale are yet to win the historic trophy and bowed out on this occasion, with recent FAI Amateur Player of the Year nominee Eoin Murphy among the ‘Mount goalscorers. They will join the 10 other MSL sides, along with the five Munster-based League of Ireland sides, in the hat for the upcoming draw.

The Keane Cup is reaching its business end, and on Friday, Ringmahon Rangers saw off Cobh Wanderers 1-0, thanks to an injury-time penalty from former Waterford man Anthony McAlavey. They will host College Corinthians in the semi-finals, with Avondale United awaiting the victors of Carrigtwohill and Rockmount on the other side of the draw.

Turning attention to league matters, in the Premier Division, College Corinthians were 3-1 victors at home to St Mary’s, with Killian Cooper notching a brace for the Douglas side. In the sole other Premier tie of the weekend, UCC picked up their opening win of the campaign, seeing off Leeds 1-0 at the Farm thanks to a Fionn Duggan effort.

It was a quiet weekend in the First Division, but there were new league leaders as Carrigaline recorded a 4-1 win at home to Riverstown, their third league win on the trot, to climb to the top of the table. Bandon also made up ground on those not playing, taking second spot with a 2-0 defeat of Wilton.

In the Second Division, the surprise result of the weekend saw league leaders Mallow slip up at home to Park United, with the Mitchelstown side winning 3-2.

On Friday night, it was the meeting of second and third as Passage faced Fermoy in Carrig Park. It was the Harbour side who won out, also by a 3-2 scoreline, to capitalise on Mallow’s defeat and move level at the top. Finally, Kinsale recorded their second win of the campaign, winning 1-0 at Macroom, while Ballinhassig saw off Carrigtwohill 1-0, and Kanturk drew 1-1 with Buttevant.
