In the FAI Intermediate Cup, 2024 finalists Ringmahon Rangers secured the final spot in the last 16 by defeating LSL side Malahide on Saturday afternoon.

A thundering header from Christopher ‘Kaka’ McCarthy proved decisive against the Dublin outfit, setting up a home clash with St Mochta’s in the next round. They now join UCC, College Corinthians, Douglas Hall, and Midleton as the MSL sides remaining in the competition.

Two of those sides met this weekend in the Donie Forde Cup, where Douglas Hall saw off College Corinthians in extra time. Ben Healy’s winner, four minutes from the end, decided the Douglas Derby at Moneygourney.

Elsewhere in the same tournament, Midleton secured a 4-1 win over Leeside, with captain Jake Hegarty scoring twice for the Magpies against their East Cork neighbours.

The sole Premier Division tie of the weekend saw Cobh Wanderers travel to Leeds, with the Northsiders picking up all three points thanks to a 3-1 victory.

In the First Division, Riverstown put their Intermediate Cup defeat behind them with an impressive 3-0 win at Everton, keeping them firmly in the hunt for promotion to the top tier. Carrigaline are in a similar position and climbed to second place after a 6-1 thrashing of Lakewood at Ballea Park.

Table-toppers Mayfield’s 3-2 loss at Bandon has really opened up the division, making it an intriguing league to follow this year. Elsewhere, Castleview won 3-2 at Wilton in a game that saw a remarkable four red cards between the two sides, including one for Castleview coach and Cork City legend Patsy Freyne.

There were plenty of goals in the Second Division, none more so than at Ardrath Park on Friday, where Youghal defeated Fermoy 7-4. Leon Hennessy notched a hat-trick for the East Cork outfit in what must be one of the games of the season.

Mallow United held on to top spot thanks to a 3-2 win away at Carrigtwohill, with Mallow player-manager Kevin Taylor, formerly of Cobh Ramblers in the LOI, among the scorers for the league leaders.

Temple United made the trip to Mitchelstown to face Park, with the pair playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw. Meanwhile, Kanturk secured a 4-1 victory at Macroom, Buttevant and Ballinhassig played out a 0-0 stalemate, and Passage continued their good form with a 5-2 win at Kinsale.
