Shamrock Rovers sit seventh in Conference League table after win over TNS
After their early evening 2-1 win over TNS in Tallaght, Shamrock Rovers ended match day three at the half way point of the league stage of the UEFA Conference League in seventh spot.
Their come from behind win thanks to goals from Johnny Kenny and Dylan Watts keeps Rovers unbeaten. The seven points accrued from their first three Conference League matches should earn them qualification from this league phase by being within the top 24 but the Hoops have higher ambitions.
The teams that finish inside the top eight at the end of league stage earn a bye into the round of 16 in March, skipping February's play-off round.
Kenny got the equaliser in the 23rd minute (his 17th of the season) after Rovers trailed against the run of play to the Welsh champions from the 14th minute on.
Watts, who was named Rovers player of the year at the weekend, grabbed his fifth goal in seven games.
Rovers players are taking some time off before they play a set of friendlies against HJK Helsinki from Finland with the match in Tallaght Stadium on Thursday 21st November at 8pm open to spectators.
The following day the teams will play a behind-closed-doors game.
Both sides are playing in the Conference League and are seeking friendly games as they both play summer seasons.
HJK are 26th with three points having lost 2-0 at home to Olimpija Ljubljana tonight – their one win came at home to Dinamo Minsk a fortnight ago.
Rovers return to competitive action the following week with an away match against Rapid Vienna.
Their final league stage home game is against Borac (Bosnia & Herzegovina) on Thursday 12 December before a clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday 19 December.
