Premier Division: St Pat’s secure European football as Bohs and Galway United play out draw
St Patrick’s Athletic will be playing European football again next year after securing an impressive third-placed league finish away to Sligo Rovers on Friday night.
The Saints won nine league games on the spin to finish the season with a flourish under former Ireland boss Stephen Kenny.
And they managed to overtake Derry City in doing so.
Though the Athletic did not have it all their own way away to Sligo Rovers on the final night of the season.
The Bit O’Red threatened on occasion but were trailing before the half-time break when Aidan Keena netted for the Dublin 8 side with a typically prolific finish.
Romal Palmer then made it safe late on with an injury-time strike.
The victory secured third for St Pat’s, while Sligo Rovers finished their campaign in a respectable sixth.
Elsewhere, Bohemians played out a 1-1 draw with Galway United at Dalymount Park.
The Gypsies have endured a wretched campaign at the foot of the table with survival only secured last month.
Though Dayle Rooney gave them the lead against the Tribesmen with a fine first-half effort.
But Galway were the better side and restored parity through David Hurley to ensure fifth. Bohs finished the season in eighth.
