GALWAY UNITED

Galway United will be looking to finish their home Premier Division campaign with a flourish when they host Connacht rivals Sligo Rovers (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

The Tribesmen were in European contention up to last week before their narrow defeat away to St Patrick’s Athletic.

Though they can still finish fourth and qualify for Europe if results go their way in the final two weeks of the season.

“Final game of the season at home for us Friday night against Sligo. It’ll be great to have a full house,” boss John Caulfield said.

“I was saying to the players just make sure that we give everything this season and finish with a home win for our supporters. We look forward to preparing for that all week.

“Look at our last three or four home games we’re up between three and a half to four and a half thousand. It’s our last home game, a cracking match for everyone to look forward to.

“Europe is still there, albeit an outside [chance]. But it’s more for our supporters this year. They’ve had a great season, they’ve been behind us all the way. We’re trying to see if we can give them that winner's performance at home to send them home happy.”

Greg Cunnigham remains out for Galway.

SLIGO ROVERS

After succumbing to a dismal defeat at home to Bohemians last weekend, Sligo Rovers will be looking to return to winning ways when they travel down the N17 to face Galway United.

Following that 2-0 loss last weekend, the Bit O’Red are all but out of the running for European football next season.

Though boss John Russell would like his side to get one over their provincial rivals.

“It’s a derby against our neighbours and it’s a game we’re very much looking forward to,” he told his club’s website.

“These are games you want to be involved in as a player and our boys are aware how big of a game it is.

“Myself, the players and the staff all know how much these games mean to our supporters. I understand tickets have been selling really well for the away end in particular and we’re hoping for another huge  crowd of Rovers supporters to travel and roar us on.

“There seems to be a really big interest in this match and it’s great to see as the Connacht derby is a fixture which should be associated with Sligo and Galway teams at the top end of the Premier Division.”

Referee: Kevin O’Sullivan.
