First Division Playoffs Wrap: Bray Wanderers stun UCD while Athlone Town lead Wexford
Bray Wanderers took a giant step towards securing a place in the First Division promotion playoff final on Thursday night with a commanding 2-0 first-leg win over UCD.
The Seagulls came into the tie as outsiders having failed to defeat the Students all season in the First Division.
But that mattered for little in the end as Guillermo Almirall opened the scoring in the first half for Wanderers after getting on the end of a corner-kick from Kieran Cruise.
Striker Cristian Magerusan made the game safe in the second period when he doubled Bray’s advantage in the 70th minute.
UCD have it all to do on Monday in the second-leg, with kick-off set for 5pm at the UCD Bowl.

And there was an upset win at Lissywollen as Athlone Town got the better of Wexford 1-0.
The Co Westmeath side needed a Dean Ebbe spot-kick to win it though and must avoid defeat on Monday afternoon at Ferrycarrig Park to advance to a First Division playoff decider at Dalymount Park on Saturday week.
