League Preview: Kerry -v- Athlone Town

KERRY

Basement side Kerry welcome Athlone Town to Mounthawk Park on Friday night in their season finale (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

The Kingdom are guaranteed to finish bottom of the First Division this term but have shown tangible signs of progress under the coaching team of Conor McCarthy and James Sugrue.

Their last victory came in June against fellow strugglers Longford Town but Kerry have been without Ryan Kelliher through injury in recent weeks.

He has been joined on the treatment table by Daniel Okwute, while Ethan Kos and Samuel Aladesanusi are doubts for the tie against Athlone.

“We need supporters to come in big numbers on Friday night,” Sugrue said.

“The final game of the season and the boys deserve the support and a good send off before they return next year.

“We’ve a couple of injury concerns but we really want to go out on a high in front of our home supporters.”

ATHLONE TOWN

Playoff contenders Athlone Town will be looking to finish their league campaign on a high when they face Kerry on Friday night.

The Co Westmeath secured their top-five berth last weekend with a scintillating 4-1 win over First Division champions Cork City.

Ruairi Keating handed Tim Clancy’s side a 33rd minute lead last weekend though Kyle Robinson equalised before the break for Dario Castelo’s men.

And Robinson completed his hat-trick before the hour with two further strikes for the Co Westmeath side. Peter McGregor put the gloss on the victory late on.

Dylan Hand remains suspended while German Fuentes Rodriguez also serves a ban following an accumulation of yellow cards.

Referee: Marc Lynch.
