CORK CITY

It will be celebration time for the champions when they welcome Wexford to Turners Cross on Friday (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

Having achieved their goal of promotion this season, they will be able to be awarded the First Division trophy after the game.

Although fans are already looking towards next season, it will be a good occasion for the players to receive plaudits for their work this year.

Clancy was keen to emphasise this: “It will be spelt out to them that to win a title at any age or any level is a great achievement. It’s got the club back where it wants to be and back to the top of Irish football where it belongs. The hard work has paid off this season and hopefully we’ll have a strong close season and have a good go at it next year.”

The club has already started the planning process for next season with the announcement of new contracts for Matthew Kiernan and Darragh Crowley.

WEXFORD

Second placed Wexford travel south in the aim of continuing their momentum ahead of the play-offs.

The names of the four sides involved have been confirmed, but the exact opponents have yet to be secured.

Wexford could finish second, but also could be overtaken by UCD and Athlone.

One loss in ten has put them into the prime spot as it stands. That surprise defeat by Longford Town has been the only blemish in that period.

As the top goal scorers in the division, they will not be short on confidence ahead of this game. The narrow loss in the FAI Cup Semi-Final will also have whetted their appetite.

MATCH STATS

Finn Harps will have to do better than they have done so far this season if they are to gain three points. The best they have achieved so far is two 1-1 draws including one at the cross in May.
