First Division wrap: Cobh record back to back wins to defeat Kerry while UCD and Bray play out entertaining draw

Cobh Ramblers won a second game on the spin on Friday night with a 2-1 triumph over Munster rivals Kerry at St Colman’s Park.

Ramblers defeated Athlone Town 2-1 away from home last weekend and have since backed it up with another important success in the battle for seventh place with Treaty United.

Jason Abbott gave Gary Hunt’s side an early first half lead when he slotted home a penalty kick in the 8th minute for the hosts.

But that lead lasted for just 15 minutes when Cian Brosnan equalised for the Kingdom.

Kerry won 2-0 on their last visit to St Colman’s in the FAI Cup but were without striker Ryan Kelliher who has been ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.

And Conor McCarthy’s side were undone in the second half when Abbott scored again 20 minutes from time.

Meanwhile, UCD and Bray Wanderers played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at the Belfield Bowl.

Cristian Magerusan handed Bray a first half lead at the Dublin 4 venue but the Seagulls were pegged back midway through the second period via 19-year-old Stephen Mohan.

And Bray almost lost the game only for UCD forward Hugh Parker to miss an 85th-minute spot kick for the hosts.

UCD are now guaranteed a top-five finish, while Bray Wanderers can secure theirs next weekend if they avoid defeat at home to Finn Harps.

Elsewhere, Cian Coleman maintained Cork City’s unbeaten home league record at Turner’s Cross against Treaty United.

His second half piledriver rescued a point for the First Division champions after Lee J Lynch handed Treaty a first half lead.
