League Preview: Dundalk -v- Bohemians
DUNDALK
Dundalk stalwart John Mountney has called on the Lilywhites to stop ‘sleepwalking’ into relegation trouble when they host Bohemians on Friday night (kick-off is at 7.45pm).
The Oriel Park side are now four points off ninth-placed Drogheda United in the battle to avoid automatic relegation to the First Division.
And after losing 2-1 away to Sligo Rovers last weekend, their plight in the league looks bleak.
“It was disappointing,” Mountney said last week. “The start is exactly what we wanted with the goal and 1-0 up at half-time. I think we had a lot of chances.
“We were really good in the first half, as good as I’ve seen us in a while, especially away from home. We were that dominant.
“In the second half, I didn’t think they had many moments, and then to give up the goals. The first one was a poor goal to give up. For the second, we need to get contact on the striker running through, it was a two-v-one, and just stop giving up sloppy goals.
“You can see we’re in every game but we’re just coming out the wrong side. We’re giving up big moments in games, which we can’t do. We’re sleepwalking into relegation here.
“We’ve got five games left. Whatever about performances or how we’re getting on, we just need to come out on the right side of games – I don’t care how we do it. We’re running out of Friday night’s now.”
Hayden Cann is suspended and will miss the game against Bohs.
BOHEMIANS
In a spot of bother after losing to Drogheda United (1-0) and Shamrock Rovers (1-0) last weekend, Bohemians have work to do to stay clear of ninth place.
The Gypsies are just four points ahead of Drogheda even though they have played a game less than Kevin Doherty’s men.
And that has led to boss Alan Reynolds insisting his side are still not clear of trouble.
"Of course we're looking over our shoulder," he told RTÉ on Monday after their loss away to Shamrock Rovers.
"We have to win games. But we keep working. We don't get too low after a defeat, we don't get too high after a win. It's a good group of lads in there.
“As you can see they give everything for the cause and the results will come."
Referee: Kevin O’Sullivan.
