Graham Burke’s late strike ensured Shamrock Rovers’ slim hopes of winning a fifth league title in a row are still alive.

Stephen Bradley’s Hoops got the better of the Gypsies at Tallaght Stadium on Monday before a crowd of just over 6,000 spectators.

And they had to wait for the champions to win it with Burke’s winner coming in the 84th minute.

Rovers are now four points behind leaders Shelbourne.

They have, however, played a game more than the Reds in third - with Derry City in second on 50 points, one point ahead of the Hoops.

But defeat leaves Bohemians in a precarious position on 33 points.

They are now just four points ahead of Drogheda United who played out a scoreless draw at Weavers Park against Galway United.

The Tribesmen had the best chance of the game through Patrick Hickey but his header clipped off the post and went wide of goal.

Galway have risen to fourth while Drogheda have inched to five points clear of basement side Dundalk.
