Luke Dennison went home from Dalymount Park with a spring in his step on Friday night as Drogheda United claimed a priceless three points against his former side Bohemians.

And the American will be hoping he can do the same on Monday evening when the Boynesiders host Galway United at Weavers Park.

Dennison left the Gypsies at the start of the summer transfer window to join Bohs and still lives in Phibsborough – less than a minute walk from the iconic Dublin 7 venue.

But he left the Gypsies faithful thinking what might have been, having produced a string of sensational saves to deny his former club a point.

“It's another three points and that's our aim every single week from here on out,” Dennison told extratime.com.

“It doesn't matter who we're playing. I know I've had the history of playing with Bohs earlier in the year and last year.

“But I prepared like it was any other team and showed up and did the job. I thought we played really well and got the three points.

“It was a massive result in terms of where we are, where Dundalk are and where Bohs are in the bottom three. It's massive to come away to Dalymount and win.

“There's a lot of noise and it's intense. It's full credit to all the boys who defended with their lives.”

Dennison stole the show in the 80th minute when he incredibly clawed a Dayle Rooney free-kick out of the top corner.

“Dayle Rooney can produce magic and I just reacted,” Dennison said on the save. “I saw the ball go over the wall and luckily I was in the right position to make the save at full stretch.

“It went out for a corner and we then defended from there on. It felt good and it’s always nice to make a camera save.”

The win – coupled with Dundalk’s loss away to Sligo Rovers on Saturday night – means Drogheda are now four points ahead of Dundalk in the battle to avoid automatic relegation.

The Boynesiders also have a game in hand on the Lilywhites – which will be played on Monday against Galway United.

Kevin Doherty’s men can also reel in eighth placed Bohemians who they are five points behind. Though they have played a game more than the Gypsies.

But Dennison feels Drogheda can still catch Bohs.

“That's what we're trying to do,” he admitted. “We'll be looking at it one game at a time and will try to get as many points on the board from now until the end of the season.”

And Dennison is expecting a huge battle against Galway.

“Galway are a tough side,” he added. “John Caulfield and Ollie Horgan are top, top managers in the league for a reason and it'll be tough. But we’ll be playing in Weavers Park with a packed house.”
