Bohemians midfielder Dawson Devoy insists the Gypsies will not fear Shamrock Rovers ahead of their crunch Dublin derby showdown at Tallaght Stadium.

The former Ireland under-21 and his Bohs teammates were left to lick their wounds over their weekend as they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Drogheda United.

And with their top-flight status still not secure for next season, they need to get back to winning ways sooner rather than later.

But they face a Shamrock Rovers side who are still clinging onto their slim title hopes.

“We are going there to win,” Devoy said. “We have had two decent results against them recently because that means nothing really as Tallaght Stadium is a bit different to Dalymount.

“We will be ready for the task and we are up for it.

“We don’t fear any team. It would be silly to do that. We give them respect, as much respect as you should, but also, you back yourselves to go. We fancy ourselves against any team in the league.”

Devoy returned to Dublin 7 after stints in the UK with MK Dons and Swindon Town during the summer and has already established himself as a key man under boss Alan Reynolds.

“I am loving it and I am really enjoying it,” the Co Meathman said on his return home. “The performances have improved and I am enjoying playing in the team at the minute.

“Fitness wise, I kept myself ticking over during the English off season and when I came in here, I didn’t think I was fit enough but the more games I get, the fitter I will be.”

And Devoy hopes he will be sharp in the coming weeks as Bohs look to avoid being dragged into a relegation dogfight.

Bohs are just five points ahead of ninth-placed Drogheda United but have played a game less than Kevin Doherty’s men.

Devoy stressed: “We are not really looking around us. We are just trying to get as many points as possible.

“The performances from us have been good recently and we did things on Friday that were also pretty good but they defended in a low block, they got their goal, and had something to hold onto.

“It is tough to break that down. We had four or five really good chances and on another day, they might go in.”
