Alan Reynolds conceded Bohemians have work to do if they are to avoid coming ninth and a play in a relegation playoff come season’s end.

The Waterford native watched from the dugout on Friday as the Gypsies slumped to a costly 1-0 loss at home to Drogheda United – with Frantz Pierrot netting a 28th minute winner.

Defeat leaves the Dalymount Park outfit only five points ahead of Drogheda – though they have played a game less than the Boynesiders.

But they will be left to rue some missed opportunities as James Clarke, Dayle Rooney and Paddy Kirk all missed unmarked headers. Sub Alex Greive also missed an open goal.

The defeat highlights Bohs need for a clinical marksman, and Reynolds said: “I suppose it’s plain to see that we need someone to score goals but it’s not through lack of effort or working.

“Maybe it’s just a break of a ball but every team is looking for someone to score 15/20 goals a season. We will look to address it in the off-season but we’ve a bit of work to do.”

But before they can think of that, they must ensure their top-flight status first.

“We've got work to do now,” Reynolds said. “We’ll get back at it and look forward to Monday now.

“We spoke about it there, we’re disappointed and everyone is.”

The defeat against Drogheda has put added focus on Monday’s trip to Dublin 24 for a crunch showdown against Shamrock Rovers.

But Bohs have won their last two in a row against the Hoops – albeit at Dalymount Park.

“I don’t know what it is,” Reynolds replied when asked about how his side rose to the challenge of Shamrock Rovers in previous encounters.

“It’s a Dublin derby, but I wouldn’t say it’s been motivation, there was no lack of motivation there tonight. We are decent in fairness and you can see that.

“I just give credit to the players on that. We just set up in a way that causes them problems.”
