Watch: Dundalk slip further into relegation trouble with defeat away to Waterford

Jon Daly’s relegation-threatened Dundalk remain bottom of the Premier Division table following a 2-1 defeat away to Waterford on Friday night.

The Lilywhites are still a point behind ninth-placed Drogheda United having played a game more than them.

But they will feel hard done by having been denied a penalty to potentially claim a point at the RSC.

Although, they endured the worst possible start when falling 2-0 behind inside just 16 minutes.

Keith Long’s side took the lead in the fifth minute through Sam Bellis - who was making his first league start for the club.

Shortly after, Padraig Amond doubled their lead with a cool finish.

But Dundalk rallied and should have had a penalty when Eoin Kenny was denied a certain equaliser by Blues defender Grant Horton.

Horton - previously of Bohemians - used his hand to thwart Kenny’s goalbound effort on the half hour, sparking wild protests among the Dundalk ranks.

Kenny was subsequently booked for his protestations alongside first-team coach Graham Kelly.

The Lilywhites however did score in the second half through Jamie Gullan, but it was not enough to help Jon Daly’s men avoid defeat.
