Carlos Forbs joins Wolves on deadline day loan from Ajax
Wolverhampton Wanderers have completed the signing of Portuguese winger Carlos Forbs on a deadline day loan from Ajax.
Forbs, 21, is returning to the UK after spending the previous season in the Netherlands with Ajax. He originally moved to England at age 11 and spent eight years developing in Manchester City's academy.
His performances at the youth level, particularly in Manchester City's under-18s and under-21s teams, caught the eye of many. During his time with City's under-21s, he scored 25 goals and provided 13 assists.
After his stint at Manchester City, Ajax secured his signature, and Forbs made 32 senior appearances for the Dutch club. This season, he has already featured six times for Ajax, with his last appearance coming in a match against Jagiellonia on Thursday.
Internationally, Forbs has represented Portugal at various youth levels and is currently part of the under-21 squad.
Wolves' sporting director, Matt Hobbs, expressed his excitement about Forbs' arrival, stating, "Carlos was one we wanted to do last summer, and then Ajax made a great offer for him. Now we get the opportunity to bring him in. It's probably even more exciting than even last summer, with a year’s experience in the top league at a big club."
Forbs is set to join the Wolves squad after his international duties and could make his debut against Newcastle. As Hobbs noted, "He’s ready to go. He’s been playing. He’ll go away with Portugal, hopefully do well, get back and get ready for Newcastle."
