Billy Gilmour has made a permanent move to Serie A side Napoli from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Scottish midfielder, 23, leaves the Premier League after two years with Brighton, where he made 60 appearances across all competitions.

Brighton's technical director, David Weir, praised Gilmour's contributions to the club, stating, "Billy quickly established himself as a popular figure in the dressing room and was a key player last season when we competed in the Europa League for the first time. We wish him the best of luck with this move to Italy and thank him for his efforts with the club."

Gilmour's departure marks the end of his short stint with Brighton, where he arrived in 2022 after spending time with Chelsea.

Men’s first-team head coach Fabian Hurzeler expressed his gratitude for the time spent working with the player, saying, "I have thoroughly enjoyed the short time I worked with Billy. He’s a great professional and I wish him all the best for the future."

Gilmour's career began in Scotland, where he developed through the Rangers academy before moving to Chelsea in 2017. During his time with Chelsea, Gilmour was part of the squad that won the Champions League in 2021. He also had a brief loan spell at Norwich City during the 2021-22 season.

Internationally, Gilmour has represented Scotland at various youth levels before making his senior debut in 2021. He has since earned 30 caps and scored his first international goal in a friendly against France in 2023. He also featured for Scotland in the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament held in Germany.
