Bradford City have strengthened their defensive line by securing Cheick Diabate on loan from Exeter City. The 22-year-old central defender joins the club for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

Diabate, a product of the Exeter City academy, has accumulated 75 appearances for the Grecians, playing a role in their promotion to Sky Bet League One during the 2021/22 season, where he made 18 appearances and scored twice.

Reflecting on his move, Diabate expressed his excitement about joining Bradford City.

“It feels amazing to be here. I feel like I am signing for a good club, and I cannot wait to meet the lads and get started,” he said.

Describing his style of play, Diabate added, “I would describe myself as a no-nonsense defender. I take pride in defending my box, defending long balls, tackling, intercepting and clearances.”

Diabate was impressed by the ambitions of City manager Graham Alexander, who outlined his vision for the club.

“He has a clear path for the club and I want to come here and contribute,” Diabate stated.

“He wants to get promoted, and I want to be a part of it. I am here to work hard, give my all for this club and contribute positively.”

City manager Graham Alexander is equally enthusiastic about the new signing.

“We are very happy to bring Cheick in, to give us genuine strength and competition for our back three,” Alexander commented.

“Even though he’s still a young player, he has experience of playing League One football, and being a part of a successful League Two campaign at Exeter.”
