Wolves have announced the signing of experienced goalkeeper Sam Johnstone from Crystal Palace on a four-year contract.

The 31-year-old brings significant experience to Molineux with over 350 senior appearances under his belt.

Johnstone, a product of Manchester United's youth system, has had ten loan spells across League One and the Championship. He also spent two seasons on loan at Aston Villa between 2016 and 2018.

He became a mainstay in goal during his time at West Bromwich Albion, where he played every minute as the Baggies secured promotion to the Premier League. His performances earned him the club's Player of the Season award.

Johnstone's impressive displays at West Brom also led to his first senior England cap. He was part of the squad that reached the final of Euro 2020 at Wembley, further cementing his reputation on the international stage.

In the last two seasons, Johnstone has been with Crystal Palace. Although injuries hampered his availability, sidelining him with calf and elbow issues.

Reflecting on the new signing, Wolves’ sporting director Matt Hobbs said, "It's great for us to have a player with a huge amount of Premier League experience and an international goalkeeper. We wanted to add more competition in this area, and Sam ticks a lot of boxes."

Hobbs emphasised the importance of competition within the squad, adding, "A team is in a much better place when there's real competition for every place. If we can add such an experienced player, who is homegrown and knows the league, it makes the whole group more competitive."
