WEXFORD

Wexford can take a step towards securing their playoff place on Friday evening when they welcome Athlone Town to Ferrycarrig Park (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

The Slaneysiders have won their last four games in a row in all competitions and are now five points ahead of sixth-placed Cobh Ramblers.

But they still have to face Ramblers away from home next weekend before they can confidently say they are assured of a top-five berth.

Earlier this month, Wexford claimed a stunning fightback win over Athlone, running out 3-2 victors after trailing by two in the first half.

Since then, they have defeated Treaty United 3-1 away from home to put themselves in a strong position.

ATHLONE TOWN

Athlone Town are likely to remain without goalkeeper Enda Minogue  ahead of their trip to Wexford.

The Dubliner has missed out on the last couple of months and has been covered by Lee Axworthy and Jack Harrington in the meantime.

But Athlone are in a strong position in the First Division and can seal a top-five berth as early as next month if they continue to pick up results.

However, they will be keen to right the wrongs of last weekend’s 1-0 loss at home to Bray Wanderers, which leaves them third in the table.
