Portsmouth have secured the services of 19-year-old striker Mark O’Mahony on a season-long loan from Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion.

O’Mahony, who impressed by scoring in Brighton's recent 4-0 Carabao Cup win over Crawley Town, is set to bring his talents to Fratton Park for the remainder of the season.

The young forward has been involved with Brighton during pre-season and featured in their recent cup match.

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho expressed his excitement about the new signing, highlighting O’Mahony’s abilities.

"Mark has been involved for Brighton during pre-season, as well as featuring the other night," said Mousinho.

"It was brilliant for him to get those minutes and make such a strong contribution, while everyone there speaks incredibly highly of him."

Mousinho went on to praise O’Mahony’s physicality and versatility on the field.

"He’s a striker who can hold the ball up well and link play, while also getting in the box to score goals," he added.

"Mark is a real physical presence and he has a lot of the attributes we want to see from a centre-forward, so I’m looking forward to working with him."

O’Mahony began his professional career with Cork City in Ireland, progressing through the youth ranks to the senior side.

In January 2023, he made the move to Brighton, where he gained experience in the Premier League.

The striker has also made an impact on the international stage, having been capped up to the under-21 level by the Republic of Ireland.

He was named the FAI Under-17 International Player of the Year in 2021.
