While Shamrock Rovers will earn a minimum €3.87 million in Europe this season plus ranking add ons, UEFA have hit the Hoops with a €8,000 fine after the organisation’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body met this week.

The Hoops weren’t the only League of Ireland club to pick up a fine with Derry City hit for €2,250.

The Hoops were fined for an incident in their Champions League qualifier against Sparta Prague in Tallaght. A spectator who got on the pitch in an attempt it seems to get a selfie with a player has resulted in a fine for the club of €8,000.

Cost to the Candystripes

Derry City had a costly defeat to FCB Magpies in July with the Candystripes were eliminated in the very first round of the Conference League qualifiers by the Gibraltarian team. But City were also fined €2,250 for objects being thrown on the pitch.

Manager Ruaidhri Higgins received a warning for his team being late out on the pitch for kick-off.

Derry City's prize money from their European campaign this year was €325,000.

Repercussions for St. Joseph’s after clash with the Reds

Shelbourne’s opponents St. Joseph’s from the Reds’ first qualifying round win in the Conference League have had goalkeeper Alejandro Gonzalo Pax Aguero suspended for three games for ‘assaulting’ a Shels player. The game ended in a melee that saw Sean Gannon sent off and subsequently receive a three match ban.

The Argentinian picked up a red card from the bench for the incident and now has had his suspension confirmed.

At last month’s UEFA meeting, the Reds received a combined fine of €21,250 for incidents in that away leg in Gibraltar and confirmation of that Gannon suspension.

The club were fined €11,250 for objects being thrown on the pitch by away fans while the chanting of ‘a provocative political message not fit for a sports event’ has cost them a further €10,000.

Shels earned €700,000 in prize money from their European run that ended in the Conference League second qualifying round at the hands of FC Zurich.
